End of Year Awards for Elementary Students

An elementary classroom with an Awards Ceremony Set Up. A red carpet leads to the stage and awards slide on the screen.

Hands down, my favorite Last Day of School tradition is our End of Year Awards Ceremony. I lay out the red (butcher paper) carpet, turn on the disco lights, cue the Hollywood Award Show music, and grab my microphone for announcing each student’s name. It’s a massive hit. And it just feels right as a way to end and celebrate our year together. Below I’ll tell you more about this precious tradition so you can bring it to life in your own classroom!

Comment PALS for the link! 🧡🐿️🍁Students will LOVE Comment PALS for the link! 🧡🐿️🍁Students will LOVE being celebrated with these cuties!

Make every student feel seen by honoring them with a Proud Pal! 👀 The goal of this system is to recognize every students over the weeks for what they bring to the table. They don’t have to be perfect to receive an award, you’re just calling out the good things already in them so they know they are appreciated! 👏🏼

You never know what a silly little award might do to boost a child’s confidence in themselves ✨🥹

Comment CAFE for the links! ☕️✨ This is hands down Comment CAFE for the links! ☕️✨ This is hands down my favorite day of the school year.

The premise: students are hired as “baristas” and complete a series of themed learning tasks throughout the day! This includes editing the cafe menu, using math skills to unlock the cash box, and completing a book tasting. 📕

Of course they get to enjoy a “latte” (aka chocolate milk & whipped cream) during training as well!

This video features @ohheyymissk who did this with her class. Her drink set up is NEXT LEVEL! 👏🏽🫶🏼 Thank you, Miss Kakura, for sharing this!!

Step 1 to a smooth day: morning slide on the board Step 1 to a smooth day: morning slide on the board ✔️💻 Comment “slides” for the link! 🔗

The morning slide is a great way to build student independence and keep students accountable for your expectations. Add more visual directions if you teach littles!

Comment MORNING MEETING for more details! ☀️This l Comment MORNING MEETING for more details! ☀️This learning may be even MORE valuable than academics.

Of course, I’m not saying school should become camp (although I LOVED my camp counselor days) and we negate learning time.

But I AM saying that Life Skills/SEL needs a place. Even if that’s a short 10-20 minute pocket of the day (preferably right after the bell to start the day off right.) 🧡

Teaching these skills explicitly will do wonders for students and for your classroom community. It’s so special to me to see these units being used in classrooms beyond my own! 🥹
