End of Year Awards for Elementary Students

An elementary classroom with an Awards Ceremony Set Up. A red carpet leads to the stage and awards slide on the screen.

Hands down, my favorite Last Day of School tradition is our End of Year Awards Ceremony. I lay out the red (butcher paper) carpet, turn on the disco lights, cue the Hollywood Award Show music, and grab my microphone for announcing each student’s name. It’s a massive hit. And it just feels right as a way to end and celebrate our year together. Below I’ll tell you more about this precious tradition so you can bring it to life in your own classroom!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! 🍎📓✂️ This is such Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! 🍎📓✂️ This is such a sweet way to honor the teacher in your child’s life.

Pair this craft with the teacher’s favorite snack or drink for extra sweetness. 💐 When making the craft with your child, encourage them to mention class activities, daily routines, or fun things the teacher says/does that they love. Teachers love knowing what little moments stick with them! 🥰

It’s time to End the Year with a BANG!🎈This is the It’s time to End the Year with a BANG!🎈This is the sweetest way to celebrate the last days. 🥹

The end of the year is my favorite time in the classroom (second to the start of the year 🍎) because of all the sweet traditions we do! At the top of my list is this celebratory countdown. It brings a fun and exciting energy to the classroom and helps us savor our final weeks together! 🫶🏼

A few FAQs:

Q: What is balloons are too loud/scary?🎈
A: You can use envelopes instead! You could change the wording on the board to say “Let’s Countdown to Summer” if you prefer. OR just make your balloons extra small so the pop is equally tiny.

Q: What about students who don’t want the year to end?
A: Even in my experience working with students who feel this way, the countdown has always been a source of joy, not stress. We keep the focus on celebrating our final days together and that keeps the mood light. Regardless of if you choose to celebrate the last days of school or not, the year will end. I personally believe talking about this and preparing students for this is much healthier than having it promptly end without closure. To me, this is the perfect way to help the class transition into summer.

Q: Can I edit this resource?
A: Yes! The format shown in these photos is editable in PowerPoint. I also offer a new Composition Notebook style that is editable in Canva. 📓
