The Viral Verb Song on TikTok

The Viral Verb Song on TikTok showing on a phone.

On March 8th, I had around 16K followers on TikTok. I posted several videos that night, and within a few days, one of them landed over 4 million views. My following rapidly grew, scaling over 30,000 in a matter of weeks. It’s been an honoring and humbling experience to say the least! This Viral Verb Song has received so much love. Today I’m proud to offer it to you in a new way.

The Story Behind the Songs

If you’ve followed my page for awhile, you know The Viral Verb song isn’t the first of my tunes. I’ve been rewriting the lyrics to popular songs for years in order to add community and engagement to the classroom. Music and writing are two of my side passions, so this was the perfect way to combine them.

When first starting out with songs, I wrote them solely for my classroom. I loved how much my students enjoyed them and would share the videos with my family and friends. I felt the songs were special, but every time I shared a video, the validation was far beyond my expectations. It was then I began sharing them on my Instagram as well.

After sharing several songs on Instagram, the number of requests for the lyrics became overwhelming. One of my followers that suggested I list my songs in my Teachers Pay Teachers Store. This thought had never occurred to me before. “Would people really pay for lyrics?” I wondered. It turns out, they would!

Songs are my Specialty

The Classroom Songs Growing Bundle became my consistent Best Seller by a long shot. Every time I shared song videos from class they outperformed my other content. It was clear they were indeed, my specialty! This was so encouraging to me and gave me drive to continue creating songs.

The Viral Verb Song Surprise

My social media platforms have always grown slow, but steadily over the years. I’m always amazed when I see new content creators soar, because that has just not been my personal experience. Comparison can be tricky for me in this regard. I celebrate every creators growth, but sometimes it can be a hard pill to swallow! I have to remind myself the number is not what is important. Further, the amount of control I have over that number is limited.

I think I’ve always expected (and hoped) that if any of my content went viral, it would be one of the songs. These are near and dear to my heart, so I’m so glad it happened this way. Though I’ve had content perform well over the years, I’ve never experienced it to the magnitude as with the Verb Song.

In fact, I’d recently written a math song I was sure would outshine the Verb Song tenfold. It turns out, for whatever the reasons, the Verb Song caught on. I’ll link the video below so you can watch for yourself!

A New Offer

Since the success of the video above, I’ve received numerous requests for it to be sold as a single in my TPT Store. While already accessible via the Class Songs Growing Bundle and the Learning Songs Set, many were only interested in this song specifically.

Initially, I didn’t like the thought of this idea. Personally, I don’t feel The Viral Verb Song is any better than another song in the bundle, its just more popular! I didn’t want to sell the song separately and devalue the other song bundles in any way.

But then I started getting a few messages around this theme:

“Hi Melody! I’m a speech pathologist at an elementary school. Many of the students on my case load are struggling with the concept of verbs and I’d love to add your song to my practice. I don’t have a use for your other songs at this time. Is there any way you would sell it separately?”

After a few of those, the decision became clear.

Introducing “Class Song Solo: The Viral Verb Song”

You can now purchase the Viral Verb Song alone in this “Solo Song” product! Though of course, the bundles are still the best value (especially if more than one song is of interest to you,) this is perfect for those wanting to give songs a try or who only have use for this song in particular.

Not sure how to begin introducing class songs? Not to fear, I have a past blog post on that I’ll link here!

I hope your class will enjoy singing this tune as much as my students and I have!

End of Year Awards for Elementary Students

Hands down, my favorite Last Day of School tradition is our End of Year Awards Ceremony. I lay out the red (butcher paper) carpet, turn on the disco lights, cue the Hollywood Award Show music, and grab my microphone for announcing each student’s name. It’s a massive hit. And it just feels right as a […]

My KEY to keeping lessons organized! 🔑 Comment My KEY to keeping lessons organized! 🔑 Comment “scope” to get this FREE! 👏🏽

My first school didn’t provide a guide of any kind for moving through lessons throughout the year. It got frustrating to remember how we did things the year before and to always have to reference curriculum maps for multiple subjects.

SO, I finally sat down at the end of one school year (while everything was fresh on my mind!) and made my own template!

This was a game changer for me and my teammates! Linking in the slides we used leveled up this template even more.

I’m including a free sample from my years teaching 2nd grade + blank templates for you to enjoy! 🥰 Hope you love using it!

My favorite school task to check off in summer! 🍎☀️✔️

‼️ Please ignore or save for later if you are not yet on break or ready to think of school yet! This is for those who want to check things off their list early! 🥰

Do you use a letter?! If not, I think you should! Here is why:

✨First impressions are a BIG deal!
The first few days/weeks set the tone for the rest of the YEAR! You want to show families how approachable & caring you are. The letter helps set that tone.

✨We want families to trust us!
Families are entrusting their most precious asset to us, their children! They don’t get time before the school year to know & trust us. The letter helps begin that relationship & build trust.

✨We want students to like us!
Starting the year is often exciting yet nerve wracking for kiddos. A little letter like this can help students begin to like us & make connections to us.

They get this physical letter at the “Meet the Teacher” event that happens before school begins. I also email the letter to families before “Meet the Teacher” so they have a digital copy as well.

I wish my students knew...✨This is a letter your I wish my students knew...✨This is a letter your students will treasure🤍It’s a little way to let them know how much you care!

Throwback to when I bawled my eyes out in front of them as you can see here 😭 but I think they were all touched by the emotion.

After reading my letter, I gave students the option to write a note back to me or to the class as a whole. They were so thoughtful and precious!

This simple activity filled my heart and felt perfect for the end of the school year. 🤍

If you’d like these templates, you can find them as a part of my “end the year letters” set in my TPT store.

Comment the word “letter” you would like the link! 💌
